Do you have an idea or curriculum for an interesting program we don’t already offer? NCE is always looking for qualified, personable, and experienced teachers with new topics for upcoming adult classes, kids clubs, and summer camp! We run four terms for adults and children. Course proposals are due four months before the start of the term. Fall: Mid-September to late December Winter: Mid-January to mid-March Spring: Late March to mid-June Summer: Late June to late August Kids’ summer programs are finalized in November, so proposals should be in by August. What to Expect All Newton Community Education instructors—whether teaching kids or adults—are expected to: Respect shared spaces: Follow site protocols and leave classrooms and facilities clean and organized Be prepared and professional: Arrive early, plan each class, and come ready with materials and clear objectives Lead engaging, high-quality experiences: Create structured, interactive classes that meet participant needs Foster a positive learning environment: Build welcoming, respectful spaces where participants feel comfortable Communicate and stay accountable: Maintain attendance and report any issues or incidents promptly Teaching Kids Programs Structured engagement: Incorporate routines like icebreakers, visuals, and consistent lesson planning to support younger learners Active supervision & safe dismissal: Ensure students are accounted for at all times and released appropriately Health & safety awareness: Review student information (allergies, learning needs) and take name-to-face attendance Stronger behavior guidance: Set clear expectations and actively support positive peer interactions Mandatory reporting responsibilities: Follow legal requirements related to child safety and well-being Enhanced communication: Report absences, roster discrepancies, and any incidents (including behavioral or bias-related) promptly View Full Instructor Expectations for Kids Programs Teaching Adult Programs Operational awareness: Manage basic logistics like rosters and space use, and report any incidents if they arise Participant-centered approach: Adapt to varying experience levels, goals, and comfort with participation Facilitated learning environment: Encourage discussion and engagement without requiring it Flexible instruction: Balance structure with responsiveness to group interests and pacing Simplified supervision: No dismissal procedures or child-specific safety protocols required View Full Instructor Expectations for Adult Programs Submit Your Proposal For proposals to be considered, they must be submitted using the following form.
